Overview
Vivasoft, a leading software outsourcing company, is seeking a hands-on Database Administrator (DBA) to self-manage Microsoft SQL Server databases on AWS. This is a role for someone who thrives on taking full ownership of database operations, from deployment to optimization, security, and monitoring.
Responsibilities:
- Manage, monitor, and optimize SQL Server databases on AWS (EC2 and RDS)
- Handle backups, restores, high availability, disaster recovery, patching, and upgrades
- Tune queries, indexes, and database structures for maximum performance
- Implement security best practices, user roles, permissions, and access controls
- Automate routine tasks using T-SQL, PowerShell, or Python, and set up monitoring/alerts
- Collaborate with development and DevOps teams to support database-dependent applications
- Own database environments end-to-end, including troubleshooting and incident response
Requirements:
- Able to work with the US Time zone
- Strong 3-5 years experience in SQL Server administration (installation, configuration, and maintenance)
- Hands-on experience with AWS services: EC2, RDS, S3, IAM, CloudWatch
- Expertise in query optimization, indexing, and performance tuning
- Comfortable taking ownership of production databases and managing them independently
- Good scripting or automation skills to streamline DBA tasks
- Optional but a plus: AWS certifications, experience with Always On Availability Groups, or infrastructure-as-code tools
